About Ion Gardens

ion /ˈʌɪən/ noun

  1. an atom or molecule with a net electric charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons.

Ion Gardens’ name references a type of charged particle. The imbalance creates a positive or negatively charged atom in an energetic state, searching to either lose or gain an electron. All the world around us is about the constant flow of energy. It is the very stuff of matter.

With backgrounds in music, architecture, art, community activism, and mental health, we have forged a relationship that is more than extraordinary. Working collaboratively we constantly bounce ideas around, testing theories and trying out different ways of looking at the ordinary. We are both passionate about science and art in all its forms and this is the bedrock of our practice. We aim to add extra layers of meaning to our projects, while always striving for simplicity.

Attaining a qualification in permaculture design was a revelation in ways of thinking about the living environment and as an all-encompassing approach to design and living. At the same time we realised we had been developing many of the ideas in various disciplines over the years ourselves. Closed circuit systems and the reduction of waste has always been part of our ethos, along with sustainable practices. Care and preservation of the earth is key to our work and looking at the network of systems within nature and the human world are essential tools of our approach to design.
