We repurposed the original concrete slabs as sides for the raised beds, and faced the new fences with timber from the old ones, making this project more sustainable.

The garden is at the front of this central London maisonette. Though it’s tiny, we found space for the practical - bin store, compost, storage, water butt - as well as for a colourful mix of plants, and entertaining space. Vertical planting maximises the planting area, and chunky timber edges to raised beds provide extra seating.

We blocked the path from the garden gate to the house with a high level planter to hide the view of the bins from the house and to make the “journey” through the garden to the house slightly longer, making it feel like a larger space. This graphic was part of our original presentation.

The garden now provides a private outdoor room with a table and seats, which became an outdoor office during Covid
